Nicolò Benigni

I like software that feels great, runs fast and gets better over time.

I’m a senior product engineer with 13 years of experience. To me, Good Software™ feels obvious to use, is fast, and can be changed without everything falling apart.

Fatture in Cloud Expenses Importer

Node.js CLI / LLM-powered invoice processing

A small open-source CLI that extracts data from PDF invoices using Claude or Gemini, uploads them to Fatture in Cloud as business expenses, and supports dry runs and rollbacks.

Technologies

My strongest stack is Ruby/Rails, Node.js/TypeScript and React, backed by PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis. I also work with Svelte/SvelteKit, React Native, Docker, Linux, APIs, queues, observability and production infrastructure.

I choose technology based on the product and the team. After 13 years, learning the stack around a problem is usually the easy part.

Experience

Qboxmail

Research & Development Team Lead · 2 years

2014–Present

I’ve worked at Qboxmail since 2014. For the past two years, I’ve led the Research & Development team while remaining hands-on across backend, frontend and infrastructure.

My work includes large Ruby/Rails applications, React interfaces, Node.js services, APIs and integrations, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, background jobs, observability and production operations.

I regularly own features end-to-end: understanding the product problem, designing the solution, implementing it, deploying it and following it in production. I also work on performance, reliability and internal tooling.

Blooza

Co-founder / Product & Engineering

4 years

Blooza was a startup I built with friends: a football collecting and gaming app used by a few thousand players every day.

I’m proud that I built the entire technical product myself: an iOS and Android app built with web technologies—rated five stars on the App Store—plus its backend, native integrations and production infrastructure.

The product worked; the business didn’t. We never found a sustainable model. Building software people enjoy is only half the job—the business around it has to work too.

Freelance & consulting

Full-stack / Product Engineering

I help clients get stalled or complex projects moving—and shipped.

How I work

I ship in small steps and tackle the risky parts first. I show working software early, ask for feedback often and say plainly when something is harder, slower or not worth building.

I don’t disappear for weeks and return with a surprise. You always know what is done, what comes next and where the risks are.

Some recent clients I’ve worked with:

For 221 Luxury, I reduced the AWS bill by 90% in two months, upgraded the backend from Rails 4 to Rails 6, and simplified the infrastructure by replacing Elasticsearch and Mapbox with PostgreSQL’s geospatial features and full-text search.

For Insurance4Music, I took a stalled project from zero to production in three months, after the client had spent a year with an agency without receiving a working version.

For Podcastory, I led a team of freelancers to build and launch its podcast platform in six weeks: a Flutter mobile app averaging 4.5 stars and a custom Node.js CMS.

I’ve also worked on many other non-public projects. If you’d like more details or references, email me at .
